Sean Teare To Be Sworn In As District Attorney

Harris County District Attorney-Elect Sean Teare To Be Sworn In As District Attorney

In First Act As DA, Teare To Fulfill Key Campaign Promises By Swearing In Experienced Prosecutors, Begins Revamping Intake Division

(Houston, TX) - At 12:01 a.m. on Jan. 1, Harris County District Attorney-elect Sean Teare will be sworn into office during a brief ceremony at the Criminal Justice Center. Immediately upon taking office, Teare will swear in his incoming senior staff and begin fulfilling one of his primary campaign promises; overhauling the Harris County District Attorney’s Intake Division.

The HCDAO’s Intake Division plays a key role in supporting public safety and justice working alongside police officers and investigators across Harris County, ultimately deciding if there is sufficient evidence to pursue prosecution. When Teare swears in Denise Nichols, a seasoned prosecutor with decades of trial and leadership experience, as the new Bureau Chief of Intake, it will be his first official act in office. Under Nichols and her team, the strength of the Intake Bureau will be restored, as Teare’s Administration focuses on lessening the court backlog and getting crime survivors the justice they deserve.

"We have a lot of work to do in the coming years to improve the criminal justice system,” said Teare. “I have been building a plan during this transitional period that ensures we have experienced prosecutors on hand to swiftly identify the difference between a good case we should pursue in the name of justice and a case not supported by probable cause that will clog up our system and divert valuable resources from our mission of keeping our community safe."

Media are invited to capture B-roll of Teare as he is sworn in and welcomes new senior staff to the Office and swears in key new leadership to take the helm of the HCDAO.
