Mom of Abandoned infant charged with Child Abandonment

The Harris County District Attorney’s Office charged a woman Monday with Child Abandonment, for abandoning her newborn on a pathway outside her apartment complex.

Sidney Ann Woytasczyk, 21, is alleged to have given birth to a female infant around midnight on the morning of August 10th, 2017 in the kitchen of her apartment. She then placed the new born outside on a pathway and then went to bed.

The child, who was discovered by a neighbor, is believed to have spent approximately 5-and-half hours out in the elements. She was found covered in insect bites, and showed signs of minor scrapes and scratches. She is currently in the custody of Child Protective Services.

Woytasczyk is currently in the custody of the Harris County Sheriff’s Department. Abandoning a Child Under 15 is a second degree felony. If convicted she faces 2-20 years in prison, although probation may be considered. We expect that once defense counsel is engaged, any evidence of a mental health history will be produced.
