Man who pointed shotgun at children while robbing parents sentenced to 25 years

May 24, 2019

A man who pointed a shotgun at a seven-year-old girl while demanding money from her father during a Sunday morning crime spree, was sentenced to 25 years in prison, Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced Friday.

John Michael Medina sneaked up behind a couple in a parking lot of a grocery store on FM 1960, in May 2018.

When Medina, 25, pointed a shotgun at the girl and threatened to kill her, her father handed over all he had – $7.

The robbery was one of at least three that day. In each instance, Medina, pulled out a shotgun, racked it in his victims’ faces, and demanded money.

“He drove around with a loaded shotgun and pointed it at two babies while robbing their parents,” said Assistant District Attorney Mikahl Abou-Sayed. “Having a gun pointed at you is traumatizing enough, but having a gun pointed at your child is unforgivable.”

In addition to the seven-year-old, in another instance, he threatened to shoot a one-year-old child.

Medina, who had no prior criminal record, pleaded guilty to two aggravated robberies and was sentenced Thursday.
