Investigators’ hard work leads to capital murder charge

January 8, 2019

Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg announced Tuesday that prosecutors have accepted capital murder charges against Larry Demetricus Woodruffe for capital murder in the slaying of Jazmine Barnes.

Ogg will confer with a committee of her senior prosecutors at a later date to decide whether to pursue death or a life sentence.

Woodruffe, 24,who was previously held on a controlled-substance charge, is accused of shooting Jazmine on Dec. 30 along the Sam Houston Parkway feeder road.

“Credit is due the discipline and persistence of homicide investigators, who worked around the clock to corroborate tipster information with actual evidence,” First Assistant District Attorney Tom Berg said.

“Proof in a criminal case is beyond a reasonable doubt, and this requires professional investigation and scientific evidence,” Berg said. “We expect the hard work by investigators and prosecutors will lead to the convictions of Larry Woodruffe and Eric Black Jr for the meaningless murder of this young child.”
