A Harris County jury found Sandra Jean Melgar guilty Wednesday of murder for the stabbing death of her husband, whom she killed as if it were a home invasion.
Melgar faces five to 99 years, or a life sentence, during the punishment phase of the case, which is to begin Thursday morning in the 178th District Court, and marks two weeks since the trial began.
Melgar, 57, is not eligible for probation.
“I would like to thank the jurors for their patience and attention throughout this long, difficult case,” Assistant District Attorney Colleen Barnett said. “Jaime Melgar was by all accounts a wonderful man.”
