David Mitcham-First Assistant

David Mitcham, an Eagle Scout, grew up in Houston and was educated in the public schools. He attended the University of Texas at Austin, graduating with honors, as an English major. He went on to receive a Juris Doctorate degree from the University of Texas School of Law. He was licensed by the State Bar of Texas in 1979. From 1980 to 1984 he was a Harris County prosecutor under then District Attorney Johnny Holmes, and assigned to the Trial Bureau. In the calendar year 1983, he represented the state as lead counsel in more felony jury trials, and secured more felony jury trial convictions, than any other prosecutor in the D.A.’s office.

From 1984 to 2016, he was actively engaged in private practice of law, as a criminal defense attorney. He was elected and served as president of the Harris County Criminal Lawyers Association (HCCLA) from 1988 to 1989, and was later recognized by his peers in HCCLA with the “Attorney of the Year Award” in 2001 for “Dedication to the Principles and Ideas of American Justice.” For more than 30 years, he has been Board Certified in Criminal Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization.
